In the last three years, Canadian bodybuilding star Iain Valliere has established himself among the top bodybuilders in the world. However, after placing seventh twice, Valliere fell out of the top ten at the 2022 Mr. Olympia contest. Many fans and experts pointed to the atrophy of specific body parts like the triceps and lats. Among those pointing out Valliere’s shortcomings is former Mr. Olympia Samir Bannout. According to Bannout, the Canadian bodybuilding star might be dealing with the consequences of injecting steroids into sensitive areas.

In the latest episode of the Muscle Maturity Podcast on YouTube, the 1983 Mr. Olympia sat down with Nick Trigili and John Hansen. During their conversation, the trio talked about injecting steroids of site enhancement oils directly into the muscle. However, the former Mr. Olympia warned of the dire consequences of doing such a thing.
A decision that can jeopardize the career of Iain Valliere
During the podcast, the former Mr. Olympia said he has seen people inject steroids and site enhancement oils into their muscles. When Trigili claimed that Valliere had admitted to injecting his lats, Bannout asked if the Canadian had said something about his calves. When Trigili said he hadn’t, Bannout said, “Bull****! I know everyone that did that.” The former champion also said, “You just cannot inject this s*** into your calves.”
The 1983 Mr. Olympia winner also warned that doing so could damage the muscles beyond repair. Bannout said injecting steroids into sensitive areas can “totally damage” that muscle. “They all suffered the same consequences – all of them. No one escaped with good calves after one injection into the calves,” Bannout said.
The Lion from Lebanon also said he hoped youngsters like Valliere would listen to experienced bodybuilders like him and avoid such practices. Co-host Nick Trigili also pointed out an additional risk of injecting into sensitive muscles. He said that some tissues have more nerve ending than others, and even damaging one nerve could cause lifelong damage to specific body parts.
Samir Bannout used Denis Wolf as an example
The Lebanese bodybuilding legend also talked about Dennis Wolf. Wolf was among the top bodybuilders in the mid-2010s. In 2014 Wolf won the Arnold Classic. However, health issues forced him to retire early. Bannout said that Wolf also injected substances into his calves and is still suffering from it.

“His liver enzymes — no matter what he did, they’re not going back,” said Bannout. The bodybuilding icon said despite trying various treatments, Wolf’s recovery has progressed at a snail’s pace. Bannout hopes that competitors like Valliere won’t make the same mistake.
