In 2006, when the bodybuilding world thought Ronnie Coleman would be the undefeated Mr. Olympia champion for the 9th time, a new winner emerged instead. Jay Cutler had been Coleman’s on-stage rival for the longest time, and he finally beat the beast. Famously nicknamed the ‘Comeback Kid’, the 4x Mr. Olympia champion trained hard to get to that title.
A recent video capturing a part of the champion’s training was posted on Cutler’s official YouTube channel. The training video included some intense workouts with heavy weights. Unsurprisingly, fans were in awe of the former bodybuilder’s strength and conditioning.

Jay Cutler impressed with his terrific squats on the machine
It’s no secret that in order to beat the reigning champion, one would have to push more than usual. And Jay Cutler did just that. Training hard, eating well, and getting ripped were the only things on his list when he took to the Mr. Olympia stage. In the video, the champion performed some hack squats with his trainer’s assistance. But these weren’t the average squats that one might attempt at the gym.

In the video, Cutler had attached six plates to his machine and pushed to his maximum limits. The video also included a clip of the bodybuilder performing barbell squats with equally heavy weights. These were just some of the many exercises that Cutler performed to build a better physique. And fans were impressed!
The YouTube Shorts video shows that most were in awe of the number of plates on the machine, with comments like, “6 plate hacksquat with no bands???” and “Six f****ng plates on the hack squat !!!!”. Others called Cutler a champion athlete in awe – “Jay was a monster” someone even chimed in. The rest of them took a moment to appreciate and recall the bodybuilder’s accomplishments with comments like, “the only human to ever dethrone the king RC. your a legend” and “An athlete icon, this guy is amazing”. But squats aside, was there any exercise that Cutler didn’t believe in?

The ‘Arnold Press’, named after and invented by Arnold Schwarzenegger, involved working out all three heads of the deltoid. And while Cutler spoke about it in one of his videos, he revealed, “that exercise never really did anything in my routine for me”. Since bodies are different and some exercises may or may not work for an individual, Cutler only focused on those that gave him good results.
