4X Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler looked like a monster on stage during his prime. Taking over the reigning champion, Ronnie Coleman is not child’s play after all. To deliver a perfect package, Cutler used to ‘eat big to get big’ during his off-season. A diet consisting of 6000 calories and more than 300 grams of protein is not something that every bodybuilder can consume.
A decade after his retirement, Cutler has again made up his mind to achieve his best physique as part of his ‘Fit for 50’ challenge ahead of his 50th birthday. Cutler has been open and transparent about his training, nutrition, and physique updates via his social media. Making a transformation at the age of 50 is surely not everyone’s cup of tea. Luckily, Cutler has been in this industry for more than three decades now and has the knowledge and experience to do so. Cutler recently hinted that he may return to the diet that he relied on during his prime bodybuilding days.

Winning the biggest competitions in bodybuilding surely requires a lot of effort from the athlete’s side. Cutler spent a fortune on his training, nutrition, and recovery back in the day. In a recent Instagram video posted by Cutler, he showed an old clip of his bodybuilding days where he described his breakfast content. The caption of the video read, “What’s your “Breakfast of Champions”?” Continuing, he added, ‘Comeback Kid‘ wrote, “Fit for 50 starts today. Let’s get it 💪.”

Revealing his breakfast in the video, Cutler mentioned, “100 carbs of Ezekiel cereal, 60 carbs of bread, 15 egg whites, and 1 whole egg here. And uh…3 pieces of turkey bacon.”
With decades of training, Cutler’s nutrition and workouts went through many changes. However, certain elements in his diet were the same throughout his career. One such food that Cutler relied the most on was meat. In order to meet his enormous daily protein goal, apart from whey protein and eggs, Cutler counted on meat. Jay once mentioned the huge amount of money he spends on his diet annually.

During an old interview with the Iced Coffee Hour podcast, Cutler disclosed that he used to eat every two hours to optimize his growth. He also revealed that he used to eat 4 pounds of meat daily. He further explained that he used to cook steak and chicken on his own on the barbeque grill. Cutler admits that all this surely made it tough on his pocket, but this was the only way to go.
Cutler expressed how he managed to save money on eggs. “I remember getting them for free sometimes because I would publicize the Farm Stand I was buying them from.” Cutler continued by admitting, “I’d buy 150 pounds of chicken at a time. Back then I was probably spending maybe 50,000 a year on food.”
