Lately, bodybuilders like Chris Bumstead and Big Ramy have been setting new standards for better bodybuilding.

Chris Bumstead has been the reigning champion of the Classic Physique category of Mr. Olympia for the past three years. However, the icon has also had his fair share of struggles that he had to overcome. These mainly included health problems. Therefore, the legend is always vocal about staying healthy while pursuing bodybuilding. In an interview in June this year, he opened up on the same.

Chris Bumstead advises putting health first

Bumstead has been through a lot of health issues, mostly pertaining to his autoimmune disease. Bumstead suffers from IgA Nephropathy, an autoimmune disease that affects the kidneys.

The legend had his legs swell up and retain water to alarming levels. He was also hospitalized for a while before he received a complete diagnosis. Therefore, the champion has to be extremely careful of what he eats. Chris has to constantly monitor his health while also preparing for bodybuilding championships.

In an interview, Bumstead stressed prioritizing health for bodybuilders. He explained that if one were to only focus on pushing gear, and not training or eating properly, it’s a waste of time. He also recommended regular health check-ups, timely blood work, and an understanding doctor. These measures will ensure that the concerned bodybuilder trains effectively.

Bumstead also addressed the use of supplements among bodybuilders. He explained that supplements would work efficiently only if the bodybuilder has a perfect training and diet routine. Otherwise, he pointed out, “it’s literally pointless.” For optimal results, one needs to perfect the combination of a good diet, an appropriate training routine, and a suitable amount of supplements.
