“It Was Very Upsetting”: Lou Ferrigno’s Wife Felt Insulated by Him on Their First Ever Meet; Revealed in 2009

A man of versatility, Lou Ferrigno is a force to reckon with. Apart from proving his prowess as a bodybuilder, he has also inscribed his name as an actor. Like his contemporaries, he may not have had a very successful bodybuilding career, but nonetheless, he was one of the best to compete. His mastery over the craft is revealed in the 1977 docudrama Pumping Iron, which also served as a turning point in his life.

Sharing his love story in 2009, Lou sat down with his wife to walk down memory lane. However, unlike others, there was not a perfect meeting. Something happened that left his wife, Carla Ferrigno, disappointed.

When Lou met Carla for the first time, he was already a household name. Thanks to his popular television venture as ‘Incredible Hulk,’ Lou earned himself a fanbase. As Lou decided to visit a restaurant with his friends, he was unaware that his life would take an unexpected turn.

Lou was unhappy that he and his group, under 21, were not allowed in the restaurant. Visibly upset, Lou demanded to meet the manager. As Carla came out of the office, the Incredible Hulk actor was taken aback. Perfecting the role of manager, Carla took things in charge. She said, “I said I am the manager.”

Talking about the incident, she further added that “in those days, there were no women managers.” Thus, seeing Carla, Lou was a little surprised. However, for the young women, “it was very upsetting so, to say the least.” As she adds, she was doing her job, but sadly she was not even thought of as a manager.

A marriage to remember 

For Carla, life was mundane, like managing things at the restaurant; she was leading a regular life. But when she met Lou, her life’s trajectory changed. From being a regular youngster to a celebrity, her life changed overnight. Being with television star Lou, she too found herself amidst the limelight and glamour.

Thus, when in 1980, the duo decided to tie the knot, and it was expected their marriage would be the most talked about thing. However, the duo decided to keep their marriage a very personal affair. A handful of people were invited to the wedding, and Carla was in charge of the arrangement. From picking up the dress to setting up the event, she took care of her wedding perfectly. They have been happily married for 40+ years and have three children.
