The recent episode of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” features the Oscar-winning director, James Cameron, clarifying the claim yet again.

The 1984 movie, the Terminator, turned out to be a game-changing flick for both the director and the former bodybuilding champion. Forty years later, a quick dialogue about the movie and the iconic role still feels as exciting as ever. In the talk show, Cameron narrates the actual conversation concerning the cast for the iconic role.

James Cameron had his choice clear

The result of the combination of the director’s vision and Schwarzenegger’s acting as a relentless and unstoppable killer automaton continues to amaze film buffs across generations. The Terminator franchise became one of the highest-grossing films ever. During the 2019 release of Terminator: Dark Fate, Schwarzenegger divulged that O. J. Simpson, a former football player turned actor, was the original cast for the role until Cameron intervened.

Speaking of which, Cameron shared with Chris Wallace, CNN anchor that “a highly placed person” funding the 1984 film had recommended Simpson for the Terminator. “I said, ‘I actually think that’s a bad idea.’ It didn’t go anywhere,” Cameron stated. Thus, confirming that Simpson, as the potential candidate for the role, didn’t see the light of day. However, the argument surrounding the cast has another story too.

Schwarzenegger shared about a painting gifted by his creative-genius friend cum director, Cameron, hanging on his office wall. It is a sketch of the Terminator. Interestingly, the Governator claimed that it has a picture of Simpson beneath his face.

Cameron denied the correctness of the claim

After a stellar career in bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger transformed himself into a blockbuster actor, as unleashed in the James Cameron directorial 1984 movie, The Terminator. According to the ace director, the sketch was made “for us, for the production, of him[Arnold Schwarzenegger] as the Terminator.” Furthermore, he added, “Simpson was never in the mix at all.”
