Chris Bumstead, the three-time Mr. Olympia Classic Physique, began bodybuilding in his teenage. All through his life, he has trained with Iain Valliere, his coach, and a close acquaintance. A few weeks ago, the duo ended their coach-client relationship.

Mr. Olympia 2022 is around the corner and Bumstead is making no compromise on giving his best effort at training under his new coach, Hany Rambod. Notably, Rambod is training Hadi Choopan, who is eyeing the Mr. Olympia title. He ranked third in the 2021 Olympia. In a recent interview, Bumstead shared his honest opinion on his training experience with the new coach.

Chris Bumstead is not going super heavy

Bumstead and his former coach, and close friend Iain Valliere, parted ways as it was the right thing to do for Valliere’s career. The defending champion is making every effort to continue his winning spree.

Regarding training with a new coach, he said he is lifting weights, “but I’m trying not to kill myself.” Hany, Bumstead’s new coach, is emphasizing “not to kill myself here.” As a result, it is putting a check on the reps and not going super heavy. Besides, he added, “I’m going like a plate or two lighter than I normally would..”

Bumstead, who always trains like an open bodybuilder, is training with Hadi Choopan under the guidance of Hany Rambod. “..training with Hadi reminds of training with Iain, who’s stronger than me,” he said. Describing their strength, he said they do the same weight on the front squat as he does on the back squat. According to Bumstead, it helped him to push and be stronger.

A bodybuilder undergoes a different strategy of workout months before the competition. The current regime consists of leg extensions, leg presses, hack squats, walking lunges, calf raises, and more.
