Wheeler had to give up on professional bodybuilding due to health-related concerns. He had to undergo 40 surgeries related to multiple health problems. One of the lowest points in his life came when he needed an amputation due to his kidney disease. While Wheeler began adjusting to a new life, he noticed how his tragedy led him to discover stories that instilled resilience in him. Recently, he took to Instagram to share one such anecdote.

The ‘Sultan of Symmetry’ has been quite active on social media, sharing fitness tips, motivational ideas, and inspirational stories. His Instagram story recently featured a clip of an amputee on a plastic chair, happily playing football with another kid. They seemed to use their chair to kick the ball and move around. This inspired Wheeler, a fellow amputee.

Considering how the legend built up the strength and will to push through his ailments and train, the story of this young amputee instilled a sense of pride. After all, the resilience to resume normalcy amidst big hurdles is what makes them so inspiring. The veteran shared the video with a heartwarming message.

Revealing how there was always someone less fortunate, Wheeler hoped to make a difference with the story. He proudly admitted, “Videos like this is the reason why I’m proud to be an amputee”. Having survived multiple health-related setbacks, Wheeler has become the epitome of perseverance. He recently got the fruits of his labor for the same.

The honoring at Arnold Classic

The recent Arnold Classic championship witnessed Flex Wheeler receive one of the most prestigious awards of all time. Accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award, the veteran was teary-eyed when he addressed the audience.

The 57-year-old survived over 40 surgeries and still suffers from multiple health issues but always stands strong. He requested, “I don’t want any of you guys to feel sorry for me for anything that I’ve done or went through or going through or will go through”. Truly a GOAT in every way, Wheeler has made a name for himself in the community with his ‘never giving up’ attitude.
