2007 was a special year for Jay Cutler. After beating up the legendary Ronnie ‘The King’ Coleman in 2006, Culter came with a new version of himself for his 2nd Sandow Trophy. It is indisputable that Cutler was the manifested champion. But many bodybuilding fans, even reputed personalities, claimed that some of the other contestants could have dethroned Cutler. Amongst such believers is Milos Sarcev, the former Mr. Universe who opined about the arguably biased decision taken in 2007.

Sarcev recently refueled the age-old controversy about the selection of the winner in 2007 Mr. Olympia. For him, there was more than one bodybuilder who could edge Culter out. Sarcev named Victor Martinez, the runner-up, among others. How well did Jay Cutler take it? Let’s find out.

In a recent interview with Cutler Cast, Sarcev came as a guest and spoke up about a prevailing argument. Mr. Universe was adamant about not acknowledging the  Mr. Fourth Quarter as the winner. He shared, “Hold on. Hold on. Victor [Martinez], Dennis [Wolf], and Dexter [Jackson] all beat you.” Sarcev even talked about how the result would be different if he were the decision maker. “But 2007, if I was a judge, you’d be fourth”, said the IFBB professional. According to him, “Honest to God truth right, right now, they just judge what is in front of them. It doesn’t matter if you’re Egyptian, Iranian, or wherever you come from, they are going to judge your conditioning on the day.”

As per Sarcev, Victor Martinez, Dexter Jackson, and Dennis Wolf had better conditioning than Cutler. And even though Cutler had a great v-taper, that was nothing compared to Martinez’s bulk chest and slim waist. Even Mr. O lacked form and conditioning, and these guys had a better choreographed posing routine, as per Sarcev. “Victor had a more dramatic v-taper at that time and he was very wide just like you, comparably. Shape – he had these round muscle bellies right, everything was there”, Sarcev explained.

Interestingly, Cutler agreed, saying, “I think the judging was a little more biased to names back then than it is now.” Given the individuality of the sport, Cutler is indifferent to the arguments around him.

Cutler is open to interpretations

Though people tend to discuss such controversies, the 4-time Mr. O seemed to take the criticisms well and respect their point of view. He added, “I don’t get mad. Everyone has – that’s why, like we do this podcast, and I don’t want to walk on eggshells when I do comparisons with people.” Evidently, he welcomed any doubts and opinions.
