Chris Bumstead is one of the most famous bodybuilders in the current era. The journey of 4 x Mr. Olympia Classic Physique is a huge motivation for newbies in the circuit. ‘Mr. Cool’ of bodybuilding turns into a host on a YouTube channel to indulge people in the sport in engaging and insightful conversations.
In the recent episode of Raw Nutrition, as Bumstead and Vaughn Walker, an IFBB Pro bodybuilder, discuss a range of topics about the sport, the Canadian bodybuilder reveals a less-known fact about his initial phase of participation in Mr. Olympia.
While Bumstead and Walker’s conversation directed towards bodyweight and Mr. Olympia contest categories, CBum revealed that he started the Men’s Open category. “I was skinny,” he described himself. “I was just f***ing shredded with great structure,” he continued.

Speaking of his weight, the 6 ft 1 in bodybuilder shared he weighed 217 pounds then. Curious to know about his recent on-stage weight, Walker asked how much his weight was. CBum weighed 239 pounds when he clinched his fourth Mr. Olympia title in the Classic Physique category.
Undoubtedly, the Men’s Open category is more challenging and requires huge physicality. Considering this, Walker shared his interest in competing in the Classic Physique category. Walker continued that for the next two years, he would like to spend “a decent amount of time” to gain solid tissue before he shreds for a chiseled physique.

Chris Bumstead jokes about his retirement
While Walker said that he wants to compete only in the Classic Physique, CBum replied, “Fair enough! Respect!” The video also revealed that Vaughn follows “the ways of the road to make it to Classic Physique.” That said, Bumstead intervenes, “The ways of the road, yeah and then in 12 years when you’re ready for the Olympia, I’ll retire,” he laughed.

While Men’s category is the most sought-after event on the Mr. Olympia stage, Bumstead has redefined the stature of the Classic Physique category. Besides, he has been instrumental in popularising the category and inspiring several newcomers to take part in the contest.
