“I Was Like F*** It”: Newly Engaged Chris Bumstead Once Went Great Lengths to “Piss Off” His Girlfriend

Chris Bumstead has slowly but steadily made a name for himself in the bodybuilding world. From missing the trophy twice by one spot to winning it three times in a row, the world has seen him grow. He is known for his classic mustache that he dons during the Mr. Olympia competition.

By the age of 27, the young Canadian bodybuilder has seen the heights of success in his career. Not only is he moving ahead in his career, but he is also moving ahead in his private life. Chris has been in a relationship with American bodybuilder Courtney King.

Chris Bumstead has been participating in the Mr. Olympia contest since 2017. In the first two years, he missed the title by a spot and ended up as the runner-up. However, since 2019, he has constantly bagged the title for three consecutive years. In addition to his victory, another thing that has stayed constant in the three competitions is his mustache. Gradually it has become his statement style.

However, what one might not know is what prompted Bumstead to try out the mustache. In a Q&A with Hany Rambod during the 2022 Arnold Classic, Chris revealed the reason he first sported the mustache. While some might think there is an “inspirational” behind the act, it cannot be further from the truth. The Canadian bodybuilder revealed that initially, he did it just to irritate his then-girlfriend, now fiancé, Courtney King.

Bumstead told Rambod, “I’m not gonna lie, at first the mustache was the first thing and I did it just to piss off my girlfriend and I was like f*** it okay, you know what I’m gonna wear the mustache it’s gonna look cool and I’m gonna own it and step on stage.”

He further added that while it might’ve started as a way to rile his girlfriend up, eventually it became his lucky charm and something that gave him confidence. The first year he sported the mustache on stage was also the year he won the contest for the first time. Hence, Chris considers it his lucky charm. Since then, he has been sporting the mustache and winning the title every year.

The CC couple first met in passing in 2017 during the Arnold Classic. However, their real interaction happened when King slid into Cbum’s DMs in 2018. It happened shortly after the 2018 Mr. Olympia contest.

Later, the couple made their relationship official in November 2018 and has been going strong ever since. Recently, in October 2022, the love birds took the next step in their relationship and are now engaged.
