With a ripped physique at 54, Mike O’Hearn owns a personality that inspires many. And the bodybuilding legend who is respected by O’Hearn himself is the bodybuilding aesthetician from the golden era, Frank Zane. Recently, O’Hearn had a raw and candid chat with the 80-year-old where they discussed ideal bodybuilding strategies to craft a self-critic out of oneself.

In a fresh episode produced by Generation Iron Fitness and Bodybuilding, Frank Zane reasoned why he preferred photos over mirrors to evaluate his physique while training for Mr. Olympia and Mike O’Hearn resonated with the legend’s thoughts.

In a discussion with O’ Hearn, the three-time Mr. Olympia revealed that he finds his 1979 physique the best. Apparently, The Chemist trained a lot that year. ” I ran every night, a mile and a half. I posed a lot, took photos,” said Zane as he reminisced about his efforts to win the competition during his prime. 

Zane found that clicking numerous photos while training can help bodybuilders to have a better idea of their physique. He suggests to the rookie bodybuilders, “Take photos! Pose, that’s what you’re going to be doing in the show.That’ll get you in shape too, ” He quickly asserts in the video.

Mike O’Hearn admitted the truth in Zane’s words and added, “That’s so true. I agree with you. I think photos are ten times better than mirrors. I think mirrors lie to us.” Zane reasoned the thought by referring to the principle of distortion. “So, there are a lot of distortions involved, whereas, with the photo, that’s what’s there pretty much,” he explained.

The 3Chemist once shared the way to go about photos while training for bodybuilding competitions. Zane suggested clicking photos of the progress made during training by the bodybuilders which can be later used as a reference for future strategies to obtain a shredded physique.

“Because those pictures can better help you track your progress, and objectively judge the way you look than standing in front of the mirror,” were the words of Zane. Do you agree with Zane for archiving posing photographs for a better strategy?
