Recently, the IFBB pro sat for a candid chat with Mike O’Hearn, where he revealed that he used to go to the gym while putting a shirt on. The reason, as he cited, was to shock people and not to expose everything from the first. Let’s get down to the array to know more about this from his point of view.

Frank Zane criticizes showing off before the event

The iconic bodybuilder was widely famous for his take on getting symmetrical stature. Frank Zane, indeed turned some heads toward him with a bulging deltoid here, a tapering waistline there, and striations all around during his prime. But, The Chemist always followed some principles around. Just like he believed in getting an all-over aesthetic physique, he suggested not exposing the body weeks before any event.

Recently, the Generation Iron and Fitness Network shared an interview of Zane with Mike O’Hearn on their YouTube channel. While an open conversation, O’Hearn asked the legend why did he use to put a shirt on the gym. To this, he replied, “I never exposed myself in the gym. It’s like the great unveil. You have to shock people. The unveiling is that they should be astonished when you go up on stage.”

Learning this from the pro, O’Hearn compared him with an artist who would never show his painting until it was time. He said, “Think of it as an artist how the if you try to look at an artist’s picture yeah, they keep it covered” In fact, he also quoted the Canadian bodybuilder, Joe Weider, “Never show off or show it if you are not in shape.” Evidently, this has always been Zane’s secret to standing alone and astonishing people with his unmatched symmetrical physique in the era of mass monsters.

Zane believed discipline could surpass genetics

In a recent Instagram post, Zane shared a picture of him from his heydays. In that picture “Be Disciplined and consistent” was written in bold white letters. He then capped off the secret behind his enviable statue as he wrote in the caption, “The key to building the best possible physique based on your genetics is continuity and discipline.

The Chemist described how a consistent workout regime can help in one’s favor even if one does not have the genes ideal for bodybuilding. “Hard, consistent work enables you to outperform bodybuilders with ideal genes but lazy”, added 3x Mr. Olympia champion.
