Frank Zane has created a different persona for himself. Undoubtedly, he is famously known for his on-stage rivalry with the Austrian Oak. The Keep Fit Kingdom interviewer asked Zane if he was keeping up with his friends from the bodybuilding community and the answer was a moderate ‘no’. With several prospects running parallel in his life, it is not surprising that Zane has lost touch with them. Explaining his reasons, he shared that he resides in San Diego while most of the bodybuilders are from Los Angeles.

Additionally, he doesn’t feel all too warm about attending bodybuilding competitions anymore which usually serve as the place where the veterans usually get the chance to reunite. It seems Zane has entered a phase wherein he is content with writing his own pieces and having a close-knit team of trainees at his gym.

He shared, “I have a really good gym, people come from all over the world to train. I keep busy doing that plus I have a very successful mail order business with my books. I have one called ‘Zane Bodybuilding Manual’ which is 436 pages. It’s sold thousands of books over the last year or so. I do a lot of writing. I have a lot to say.”

Zane also recalled the time he became friends with his former rival, Arnold Schwarzenegger. It happened a few months after Frank Zane defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Mr. Universe contest in 1968. Zane revealed that, initially, he wasn’t going to participate in the contest. But his friend Jim Haislop talked him into it.

Zane then commented on the difference in their condition. He said, “I was in shape for that and Arnold wasn’t. Period.” He further revealed that soon after the competition, Schwarzenegger went to train in California. Later, Zane followed, and that is where they buried the hatchet. “Then I got there about six months later, we became friends and trained together a lot,” said the 3x Mr. Olympia.
