Ronnie Coleman is one of the bodybuilders with most Mr. Olympia titles tied with Lee Haney. He lost to Jay Cutler in 2006 when he was eyeing on his ninth consecutive title. Even though he had eight titles, the defeat stings when you were on the verge of breaking the all-time record. Moreover, it is not just a tough moment for the loser but also for the winner, who has shattered the huge dream of his opponent.

Recently, in Jay Cutler’s podcast called ‘Cutler Cast’, pro-bodybuilder Flex Wheeler and Jay Cutler discussed that ‘2006’ moment. Wheeler disclosed his anger at Coleman he felt at that moment. Why did he feel so?

What did Ronnie Coleman do?

In 2006, Flex Wheeler was present to give out one of the trophies. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler was trying to win his maiden Mr. Olympia title. Wheeler recalled the winning moments for Cutler in his podcast and revealed his reaction to Ronnie‘s attitude at that moment.

Wheeler said“It was hard for you to enjoy it. I remember looking at you on stage and you couldn’t even kind of… He’s turned face towards you and I am angry. I am angry at him (Ronnie) at the time because Ronnie always said, ‘hey this is meant to be, this is meant to be.”

He added, “So if it’s meant to be then if you lose it’s meant to be. And I remember when I was walking up on stage because I was giving out one of the trophies and Ronnie had, uh, as I was walking to stairs. He is like, I didn’t win and I just remember going silent on him and I remember how his conduct was. He was standing towards you, not even the audience, where everyone else, including you, stand towards the audience looking gazing.”

In addition, after recalling the 2006 Mr. Olympia, Flex also remembered Mr. Olympia 1998. In 1998, Wheeler lost to Ronnie Coleman when Coleman registered his first title win. The feeling of being a runner-up is a very uncomfortable situation. Moreover, sometimes being a winner is also the same as in the case of Jay Cutler.

Wheeler confessed, “I know that feeling because I know when Ronnie met me, I made it a point to make him feel okay. I have him a big hug, man I love you and I jokingly said, hey I am not gonna be at your party, you know he’s like I understand because why would I go to his party and be a humdrum when it’s the happiest moment for him.”
