Besides being The Hulk for the entire world, Lou Ferrigno was the personal superhero for his son. Growing under the shadow of his famous father must have been quite an experience for the legend’s namesake, Lou Ferrigno Jr. Evidently, he wanted to become something more than the “successful dude’s son“. Although as their relationship now is stable enough, Ferrigno Jr. opened up about their on-and-off engagement.

In an interview in 2021, the father-son duo got candid while talking about the bond they share. In fact, the Hulk revealed his struggled communication with his father. Let’s scroll down to get a rundown of the events.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Ferrigno Jr. appeared with his father and discussed their relationship. When asked about whether their bonding evolved with time, Lou Jr. shared how he once got the feeling, “How am I going to live up to this?” He continued, “He put this pressure on me, unjustly, because I didn’t choose any of this. His and my relationship wasn’t good”. Yet the duo worked on that and revived their link. “It took some time, and it took a lot of soul-search­-ing, but I came to see him as a teammate and a coach, rather than the opposition”, Ferrigno Jr. shared, while showing the reason.

The former Mr. Universe, on the other hand, talked about how he wanted his son to become something other than a bodybuilder. He said, ” I didn’t want him to go into bodybuilding, because bodybuilding is a very difficult sport. I wanted him to have a college education, because he was very smart.”

Ferrigno provided his kids with the parental comfort they need. He made them realize that they were heard, and even if they were angry or upset, they got their father’s support. This was indeed the relief he lacked from his own father.

The Hercules actor was quite frank while sharing his experience with his father in the interview. In fact, he revealed he didn’t want to be like his father. “My father never had the ability to say he was wrong, he was sorry… I didn’t want to be like him with my kids. “, shared the actor.

Apparently, in childhood, he had to face condemnation for his inabilities. In the interview, Ferrigno mentioned his “father was abusive” and that eventually led him to maintain a healthy relationship with his kids.
