Ronnie also revealed how the drug testing pattern of the IFBB changed, due to Jay Cutler.

Ronnie Coleman on deaths in bodybuilding

Being an expert in the field, Ronnie Coleman has often talked about preparations needed before a bodybuilding competition. This also included drastic changes in diet and water consumption. Along with this, the federation was strict about checking for substances. Therefore, the death of bodybuilders was not prevalent during this time.

However. this eventually changed. The testing for diuretics had begun due to the death of one bodybuilder, Mohammed Benaziza. Drug testing was then taken seriously and, as a result, minimal deaths occurred. But a major change took place due to bodybuilder Jay Cutler.

Ronnie disclosed that Cutler once tested positive in one of the tests, and then threatened to sue the league. This caused the league to give up on testing. Ronnie reveals, “Jay told them he was going to sue them. They was like okay, well we won’t keep testing.”

Ronnie’s touch with death

During the 2001 Mr. Olympia, Ronnie confessed how he felt like he was dying back then. This occurred on the morning of the competition when the icon felt extremely dehydrated. He recalled how he called up his nutritionist to tell them that he wanted to go to the hospital. The superstar athlete then managed to hydrate enough and score a win. However, the day still haunts him.
