Bodybuilding is a challenging sport. It tests the limits of one’s body and mind. Therefore, it is essential to keep both body and brain in check. However, sometimes, the field can be ruthless. It can drag one’s image down. That is what happened with Jay Cutler in the early 2000s before he snatched his Mr. Olympia title in an epic comeback.

In 2009, legendary bodybuilder Jay Cutler won the Mr. Olympia title after a year of slandering by media houses. One of the mean incidents that left the bodybuilder upset was a cover graphic on Flex Magazine. But Cutler rose from the ashes of his failure.

Jay Cutler did not take kindly to the slander

Current Mr. Olympia judge and Cutler‘s good friend Terrick El Guindy talked about the icon’s downfall post his defeat in 2008. Since then, the bodybuilder received a lot of criticism from fans and the media. One incident, in particular, stood out. A year before his winning Mr. Olympia performance, he was on the cover of Flex Magazine. However, it wasn’t a good depiction of the star.

According to Terrick, the cover featured half of the body of Phil Heath and half of the body of Dexter Jackson. However, it also showed a smaller Jay Cutler beside this. It indicated the inferiority of the champion compared to Heath and Jackson. It did not sit well with Cutler or Terrick. The judge later quoted, “He did not appreciate this. He felt he was disrespected”.
