’He Still Smokes”: 75-Year-Old Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Friend Danny DeVito Reveals Bodybuilding Legend’s Years of Addiction Despite Near Death Experience

Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are attached to the hip, having played the role of twins before. The buddies have never failed to share some good and some outrageous memories that have brought them closer. Throw in some quirks into the mix and they’ve got a friendship lasting a lifetime.

Recently, in an interview with Sunday Times, DeVito opened up about his relationship with the Terminator star. Friendly visits at his home have grown more adventurous since Schwarzenegger has his pets and smokes to give him company. Despite carrying a heart disease risk, the star is a risk taker. What did DeVito have to say about that?

Heart surgeries didn’t deter this habit of Arnold Schwarzenegger

Danny DeVito had recently visited his dear friend Arnie and found himself in the middle of a zoo! The Terminator’s love for animals made him famously adopt many animals, including a donkey, a miniature horse, and a dog. And according to DeVito, it wasn’t difficult to run into any of them at Schwarzenegger’s house.

However, DeVito noticed another significant habit of his friend that has been causing trouble for a long time. Even around the adorable four-legged creatures, Schwarzenegger had his cigars lit and going strong. DeVito revealed in the Sunday Times interview, “Arnold loves his animals, and he still smokes his stogies,” referring to his cigar.

This comes in despite Schwarzenegger’s multiple heart surgeries. In fact, the Terminator once had such a grim situation that he almost gave up on life, if not for timely action. Taking into account his birth defect in his heart, combined with intensive exercises and old age, Schwarzenegger ought to have given up on his ‘stogies’. But he shares such a close relationship with his cigars that he even made his ex-wife Maria Shriver upset once.

Back in the day when the couple had bought a new house at Sun Valley, Shriver warned Schwarzenegger to not smoke cigars and ruin the ‘wonderful, fresh, clean air’. So, the former bodybuilder found a middle ground where he could still smoke and not meddle in the perfect ambience.

Arnie would smoke in the Jacuzzi when he was alone. However, when he had company over, he would smoke outside with everybody else. He kept up with his rule of not smoking upstairs near his or the kids’ rooms. Heart risks aside, the Terminator had an unmatched style cut out for himself.
