Arnold Schwarzenegger is a name that goes synonymously with confidence. He is the person who once revolutionized the sport of bodybuilding, bringing it into mainstream focus. Arnold opened the doors of the sport to millions aspiring to be like him. Schwarzenegger is currently in his 70s and still living a super fit life on top of fulfilling his duties as a political figure and an entrepreneur. 

This 7-time Mr. Olympia is still active in the gym and believes in being mobile and fit regardless of his age. So it is no wonder that this icon’s children would also be in this habit. Arnold has three sons, Christopher Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Joseph Baena. While all three of them hit the gym, there are differences of opinion between the two generations. 

Arnold Schwarzenegger opens up about why his sons don’t train like him

Around 2018, Arnold sat face to face with media house Men’s Health for promotional content on his brand “Ladder.” As the former bodybuilder talked about the evolution of his brand and his current fitness regime, the question of his sons rolled in. Arnold’s sons are all into fitness, with his son Joseph trying his luck in acting.

But, his eldest, Patrick Schwarzenegger is already an established movie star, featuring in projects like ‘The Midnight Sun’ and ‘The Staircase.’ When quizzed if Patrick trains with him or not, Arnold replied negatively, stating his son trains with the trainers. He also added how they didn’t want the signature Schwarzenegger arms.

He said, “Patrick, he works out every day, but he doesn’t want to get too big because of the acting, because he’s being sought after now for romantic roles, not action roles.” But, this bodybuilding legend was not deterred by this. He added, “when he gets to be like 30, 35, he will go get bigger”. 

Arnold’s fitness regime has had multiple phases

Arnold began his journey in fitness from quite a young age. From entering his first stage at 15 to winning six consecutive Mr. Olympia titles from 1970-75, he has set the bench in the world of bodybuilding for ages to come. He has never let the addiction to iron leave and still works out regularly.

Although Schwarzenegger admits that he has greatly modified his fitness regime, adding more cardio and machine-based workouts for his injuries, he still stays the same icon as he was in his golden days.
