There’s one topic in bodybuilding that is still hotly debated, and that is the usage of ‘steroids.’ While lines are drawn based on their legality and usage, there is no denying that the two go hand in hand. Though many bodybuilders shun the use of it, many take supervised doses. In 2022, supplements and steroids are known terms, but back in the ’70s, it was hardly the case. Shedding light on the same, yesteryear bodybuilding legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared his opinion long back.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Arnold openly confessed that he used steroids. Back in 2005, in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, the 7x Mr. Olympia Champion had a lot to say about it.

Arnold made his stand clear way back

1970 was a significant milestone in Arnold’s life. Defeating the legendary bodybuilding star Sergio Oliva, ‘The Austrian Oak’ rose to stardom. Since then, there has been no looking back for him. Winning the title six consecutive times, he made his dominance clear. With an exceptional build and enormous muscles, Arnold made the heads turn.

During his professional years, he used performance-enhancing drugs. Speaking about the same, he said, “I have no regrets about it because, at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors’ supervision.”

Although he confessed to using them, Schwarzenegger emphasized that they were legal at the time. He further added, “We were experimenting with it. It was a new thing. So you can’t roll the clock back and say.’ However, when asked whether or not he would be using it, Arnold had a different stand.

Arnold Schwarzenegger would not encourage it 

As Arnie quoted, “now I would change my mind on this.” The Terminator star refused to endorse the usage of steroids or any muscle-enhancing drugs now. He clarified he would not promote drug usage since it would give kids the wrong idea.

However, he asserted that he had no issue with athletes using legitimate performance-enhancing drugs like nutritional supplements. Provided one is guided and recommended by experts and medical professionals.
