In 2021, Frank Zane, a three-time Mr. Olympia, gave an insightful interview with Oliver Lee Bateman. The Olympian talked about his life after turning 79 and how he still manages to keep up with his physique and mental peace. From lifting to meditation, Zane was all unfiltered.

Frank Zane is a retired Three-Time Mr. Olympia, writer, and trainer. Growing up, Zane was a shy and quiet person. At the age of 14, he got introduced to bodybuilding during his school days. Next, he took a membership at a local gym, and things were on track for Mr. Olympia. During his prime between 1977-79, Zane won three consecutive Mr. Olympia titles. Winning Mr. Olympia titles earned him recognition as the world’s greatest bodybuilder.

In an interview with Oliver, Zane said, “I have been doing this same stuff for 60 years now“. Zane was famous for giving a scientific approach to bodybuilding and bringing the scientific method and objectivity to the contest. He added, “Think about that, six decades…but it was worth it, because during that time I made bodybuilding a more scientific sport by bringing scientific methods and objectivity into contest preparation.”

Zane touched on many points while talking in the interview; more than anything else, He emphasized the importance of visualization. Speaking of visualization, he highlights that actions follow thoughts. For example, he said, “I know a lot about outlasting folks.

However, Zane also touched upon the topic of meditation; it helped clear his mind and drove him out of negative recurring thoughts. The Olympian in his old days prefers walking as his go-to exercise rather than doing a heavy workout in the gym.

Bodybuilding as a career option?

The veteran’s advice to people preferring bodybuilding as a career is to take it as a hobby, not a full-time profession. However, the Olympian also asked people to look for stable jobs in another line of work.

Adding further, the veteran highlights the importance of having an objective-oriented goal. It helps one prioritize things per the requirement and assists in designing a process to achieve the desired goal.
