Having lived that life, now retired, Coleman also joined the discussion and revealed how he had to compromise his sleep to stay up with his strict diet plan. Though it may sound bizarre to many, for a tough sport like bodybuilding, the participants had to be extra cautious with their diet. For them was always a make-or-a-break situation, where the stakes were high and competition stiff.

Ronnie Coleman speaks about his bizarre meal timing

As Jacked revealed that he had to keep pace with his five-meal-per-day routine. Former policeman Ronnie Coleman nodded his head in acknowledgment. Co-relating to his competition days, he patiently listened to Andrew before sharing his perspective. As Andrew continued his tale, Ronnie gently intervened to say, But I had to one more meal, so I had to get up in the middle of the night while I was sleeping.”

For those unversed, when Coleman was in his prime, he paid extra attention to his diet. Even though there was a time when he worked with fast-food giant Domino’s Pizza before joining the Police department, the former Mr. Olympia, for once, was never negligent towards his health. While competing, he started his day with two cups of egg whites. As he neared the competition, he would usually switch toward protein shakes.

Growing up in Louisiana, Ronnie Coleman was a typical foodie. Being the typical southern boy, he loved his cornbread, BBQ chicken, rice, and beans. But when he was out there competing, the extent of the meal had only little variations, as he preferred to stick to foods that worked best for him. The King’s diet would consist of 65% protein, 20-25% carbs, and 5-10% fat.

Talking about his diet, Coleman once remarked, “The most important thing about nutrition is protein because protein is what builds muscle.” And, when he was in his prime, the bodybuilding legend took various vitamins and minerals.
