“Had to Get Out of My Chair”: When Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno Was Left Starstruck by 4X Academy Award Winner Hollywood Icon

In an interview, Lou Ferrigno shared his story about his meeting with popular Hollywood star, Clint Eastwood, a four-time Academy Award winner, at a Christmas party. Clint Eastwood, who is currently 92 years old, has been in more than 50 movies and has a net worth of roughly $375 million. Ferrigno was very excited about his moment with a superstar.

Lou Ferrigno is the Incredible Hulk himself. He has also been in the bodybuilding scene for quite a while. Ferrigno has won IFBB Mr. Universe titles two consecutive times and has also appeared in the documentary film, ‘Pumping Iron.’ Despite all his struggles throughout his entire life with hearing loss, he never gave up on his dreams. He had always admired the comic book superhero Hulk in his childhood and, in the end, was able to get the role of the Hulk.

A precious moment for Lou Ferrigno

Lou Ferrigno hails from Brooklyn, New York. He has been a fan of superheroes since he was a kid. While he was at the Christmas party, he was left starstruck by none other than Clint Eastwood.

“One time I was at John Paul (Dejoria)’s house. He has a huge Christmas party every year in Malibu with 400-500 people—like Pierce Brosnan, a bunch of celebrities,” Ferrigno talked about his experience at an annual Christmas party. 

“I was sitting there and out of the corner my eye who comes walking in but Clint Eastwood?! He must have been, like, 87 at the time.” Ferrigno said and continued, “I had to get out of my chair and go shake his hand.” Ferrigno always had a huge respect for everybody. While meeting Clint Eastwood, he was flabbergasted.

“I walked up and said hi because when he walked in … It. Was. Clint. Eastwood. Now that’s a star,” Ferrigno said. The bodybuilder was literally starstruck by Clint Westhood’s arrival. Because of his hearing loss, Ferrigno really had a difficult start in Hollywood. He wasn’t able to get many roles because of that, which was really harsh on him.

Ferrigno became his own inspiration

As a child with 80-85% hearing loss, it was a really hard for Lou Ferrigno at school. He was often bullied by his classmates in school and was a child who had a rough childhood because his father refused to acknowledge and sympathize with his condition. All these situations made him hungry for power.

The comic book superhero Hulk was a big inspiration for him. Hulk’s being a massive giant who can crush anything that comes near him was something Ferrigno always wanted to be.

In 1977, while training for Mr. Olympia, Ferrigno was offered the role in the Incredible Hulk TV series, which aired from 1977 to 1982.
