The former Mr. Olympia who dominated the 90s with six consecutive wins, Dorian Yates is considered in the bodybuilders with one of the best lats. Yates was the one to challenge the dominance of Lee Haney in 1991, where he nearly lost the title. But from 1992 to 1997, the bodybuilding world hailed The Shadow as the dominating figure and what struck out was his immaculate back that hung low and stretched wide like a Christmas tree. Now Yates is passing on the mantra behind the massive success of his back, besides his genetics.

Six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates recently shared a masterclass on Instagram. Not only that, but The Shadow has finally disclosed his back routine in detail in his DY Nutrition blog. Here’s delving more into the secrets of building the lats of Zeus!

Yates began with a disclaimer. He stated that the blog is not a laundry list of one-of-a-kind secrets or advanced techniques. Yates still believes it is in the basic workouts incorporated with proper form and tempo, and a little help from his mother’s genes, that helped him develop those “hanging lats.” One of the most important things is to observe if the form is working your back rather than your biceps. It is because many back workouts also train biceps, but the main focus must be on the back.

Further in his blog, Yates revealed some exercises that helped him gain that massive back. To start, Yates performed a pre-exhausting exercise. He started with the Nautilus Pull Over machine to warm up his lats properly. If the machine isn’t available, one can do dumbbell pullovers across a bench or standing straight-arm pullovers on the cable. Next, he would pulldown, on the hammer strength pulldown machine.

Post this, he would get started with barbell rows or dumbbell rows at times. Later, he followed these exercises with seated cable rows or hammer strength single arm rows. In the end, he finished his back day with either hyperextension or a partial deadlift. This is how the master of gigantic lats worked out.

“thats why they call him the ‘shadow'”

“Undoubtedly, the greatest back of all times.”

Tracing the bodybuilding history from the golden era, fans drew parallels with the iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger. They wrote,

“After Arnold Schwarzenegger, for me, Dorian Yates is the best professional bodybuilder. Brutal muscle mass hard defienirt and absolutely perfect posing in every competition. 🔥6times Mr.Olympia 1992 to 1997 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌”
