Injuries are not uncommon in a sport like bodybuilding. Due to their rigorous and high-intensity training routines, bodybuilders are more prone to injuries as compared to other athletes. While mostly these injuries are mere muscle pulls or ligament tears which heal in a short period, at times, they can be career-ending and life-changing. There have been instances where former Olympias like Frank Zane, Dorian Yates, and Ronnie Coleman had to pull the curtains on their career because of such injuries. This six-time Mr. Olympia just got added to the list.

Ever since his retirement, Coleman has undergone various treatments and surgeries to cure numerous ailments including his herniated disc. The most recent one was the stem cell treatment. Now, another veteran champion, Dorian Yates is planning to take up the same treatment for his hip injury.

Dorian Yates will have to travel nearly 4992 miles to seek treatment

On 28th April 2023, Dorian Yates took to his Instagram to share a life update with his fans. Yates revealed he’ll soon be traveling to Columbia to undergo the stem cell treatment. In the self-recorded video, Yates said, “…just giving a shout out, actually I’m getting ready to go to Columbia on the weekend for some stem cell treatment at a facility called Bioxcellerator in Medellín.”

“So getting ready to head out there and I’ll let you know how everything goes. I got a few things I’m gonna work on, I got some pain in my hip and shoulders so fingers crossed and I’ll update you when I’m there,” he added. With this decision, Yates has joined the list of many former and reigning champions who have gone ahead with the treatment.

In the past, after Coleman, reigning Classic Physique champion Chris Bumstead and two-time Mr. Olympia Big Ramy, too, have resorted to stem cell treatment to cure their injuries. While the other two are still competing, retired bodybuilder Yates is looking forward to resolving the issues that ended his bodybuilding career.

The Shadow struggles to train

Back in 2019, The Shadow appeared in an interview on GD’s Global Muscle Radio Show. While talking about his traumas, Yates revealed, his injuries not only brought his unbeatable streak at the Olympia along with his career to an end, but they also put his regular training sessions to a halt.

Dorian Yates’ movements in the gym have been limited because of his biceps and triceps injuries. Along with these were his shoulder injuries which further rendered him incapable of lifting heavy weights. While these injuries may have kept him away from the gym and bodybuilding stage, Yates has found another way to maintain his health. By sticking with Yoga, he is fit as a fiddle even in his 60s.
