Lee Priest is arguably the best Australian bodybuilder of all time. After winning competitions like the Mr. Australia and IFBB Australian Championships, Priest began competing internationally. Throughout his career, Priest competed with some of the best bodybuilders of all time, like Ronnie Coleman, Flex Wheeler, Rich Gaspari, and others. In 2021, the now-retired bodybuilding icon featured in a video and showed how to do a full-body workout with nothing but a barbell and weight plates. However, he also had some unique advice for those who work out outside the gym.

In the video, Lee Priest showed how people often use workout equipment as crutches, not tools. He demonstrated how every body part could be trained with minimal equipment, even outdoors.

The YouTube channel Sam’s Fitness – Gym Equipment uploaded the 17-minute instructional video featuring Priest. While Priest is a regular on the channel, this video was unique as he used an EZ Barbell and some weight plates to train every part of his body. The 50-year-old began the workout with the classic barbell curl, which works the biceps and arms.

However, he did multiple variations of the curl and explained which part of the arms each variation targeted. The 2013 NABBA Mr. Universe winner then began showing shoulder and back exercises. While talking about rowing with the barbell and weights, Priest mentioned how one could utilize various structures in their surroundings to train their back.

Priest suggested going to a park for those who don’t go to the gym but still want to train. “Most government parks, local parks have some sort of bar, and go on the kids climbing equipment,” said the former Mr. Olympia competitor. However, to be able to work out in the kids’ section, Priest jokingly said one should “kick the little kids off,” and say, “I need to use the top of the swing,” to do chin-ups.

After listening to Priest’s joke, the cameraman burst out laughing. However, Priest, who remains a relevant figure in the bodybuilding community, wanted to emphasize that no matter what, a person who loves bodybuilding will find a way to train. He wasn’t done with his unique advice either.

The former Mr. Australia said those who have a barbell at home don’t need to find a bar to hang from. The cameraman suggested if a person had something to suspend an EZ bar or traditional barbell with, they could do exercises like inverted barbell rows. Priest agreed and recalled how he used a barbell to do chin-ups.

Priest said back in the day that he would sometimes look for trees with forked branches. The bodybuilding icon said if the branches were strong enough to support his weight, he would place a barbell across them. “I put my bar on the tree and do my chin-ups,” explained Priest.
