Good genes like Schwarzenegger’s are what many bodybuilders wished they had. However, three times Mr. Olympia Frank Zane was not one of them.

Frank Zane is one of the three bodybuilders who successfully defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger at some point in their career. The other two were Chester Yorton and Sergio Oliva. While the bodybuilding world pays much importance to genes, Zane doesn’t believe in its supremacy. Zane claims to have ways to surpass the ones with good genetics.

Frank Zane’s body proportions were one of the most lauded physiques in the bodybuilding world. However, Zane once admitted he didn’t have the best genetics. Despite his shortcomings, Zane was able to beat even the ones with the best genetics. But how did he do it?

In a recent Instagram post, Zane revealed the two key points to reach the top. They are – hard work and consistency. Sharing a photo from his prime days, Zane wrote, “A lot of guys have better genes but if you work hard and consistently, you can outperform them.”

Even after walking away from the competitive stage decades ago, Zane continues to maintain his shape and form. Now at 80, Zane contributes to the bodybuilding world through his words of wisdom. Over the years, Zane has shared his beliefs, philosophies, and secrets, with the budding bodybuilders.

In another Instagram post, Zane once flexed his ribbed physique from the olden days. Further, Zane talked about how important it is to “be disciplined and consistent.” He asserted that the key to building the best physique is dedication and uniformity.

Additionally, Zane believes sticking to the two abovementioned methods, one can surpass the bodybuilders who are blessed with genetics but are lazy. It was through his consistent training and the zeal to not give up, that Zane was able to cement himself in the history of the sport despite poor genetics.
