Schwarzenegger and Shriver were expected to uphold and enforce the state laws during their reign. Maria Shriver did, however, broke a very common state statute on a few occasions and then apologized for the same.
Arnold Schwarzenegger promised to take swift action against his wife
According to images published by TMZ.com in 2009, Maria Shriver was driving a vehicle while holding a cell phone to her ears. Prior to this incident, California state passed a law that prohibits using handheld devices while driving, as it increases risk of accidents.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, though, couldn’t believe the state’s first lady had broken this lay after being caught doing it three times. He was shocked to see her “holding that phone in her hand like in the Stone Age.” Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Twitter and assured the public that he would take swift action against his wife.
Schwarzenegger also joked about the incident at an event and said that he is “in big trouble“. When Maria understood what she had done, she donated her cell phone to a charity that helped victims of domestic abuse. However, Maria did not comment on the future use of hands-free gadgets.

The reason why Maria could not keep aside her cell phone might be derived from an interview she gave in 2013. In her interview with AARP, Shriver was asked if there is something that she hasn’t tried yet and wants to.

Shriver replied that she would love to try being a part of a silent retreat. The 67-year-old news celebrity said that keeping quiet might be challenging for her. She said, “because I talk a lot. That would be challenging!”
