In 1991, when Schwarzenegger was promoting his Terminator 2 movie on the Arsenio Hall Show, he recalled an inspiring story of his in-laws. Back then, Schwarzenegger was one of the active and important members of the Special Olympics. However, while talking about the sports event, the actor recalled a noble story involving his ex-mother-in-law.
He recalled, “Maria’s mother and father started the Special Olympics more than 30 years ago. At the time when everyone said, ‘forget it, it won’t happen, you shouldn’t do it, leave those kids locked up in hospitals or homes, they would never be able to adapt to a normal life, and so on,’ and Maria’s mother said, ‘However I’m gonna do it,’ and then she did it.”
Hearing this story from a proud Schwarzenegger, the audience and host erupted in a round of applause. The bodybuilder further concluded, “She’s fantastic.”
The former California Governor, who deeply admired his in-laws, is now often seen helping those in need.
