When one pursues bodybuilding professionally or aims to get extraordinary results, one should consult a professional. In 2012, bodybuilder Romario Dos Santos Alves nearly lost both arms in pursuit of getting an immaculate Hulk physique. What led him to this serious condition?

The doctors gave up hope of saving the bodybuilder’s arm

Romario Dos Santos Alves left his hometown, Caldas Novas, and shifted to Goiania. In the hope of pursuing bodybuilding, Romario went to the gym but was shocked watching the physiques of bodybuilders there. But it gave him the hunger to make a massive physique. After making friends there, he was introduced to a substance known as ‘Synthol’ and began its administration without professional consultation.

Notably, he liked the results he got from the substance and began using it regularly. However, he didn’t know what he was doing to his body but was eager to attain the Incredible Hulk’s physique. Synthol is a substance made from a mixture of oil, alcohol, and lidocaine, which helps to enlarge the muscles. But in 2012, he got to know about how the drug affected his body.

When he was taken to the doctor, he had already done massive damage to his arms. The doctors said, “We are going to have to amputate your arm. Your muscles are all rock, your muscles are all destroyed. You have necrosis in your arm, so the only way is to amputate.”

How did the young bodybuilding aspirant escape the amputation?

After Romario was introduced to the fact that his arms were destroyed and needed to be amputated, he became anxious and depressed. It even disturbed his relationship with his partner.

On the day of the surgery, he went to the hospital early in the morning. Romario said, “He went early in the morning to get hospitalized for the procedure. I am someone who has a lot of faith in God. I believe in God above everything. He (Doctor) did an examination on my arm. He did a CAT scan and said that he didn’t need to amputate my arm.”
