For the unversed, The Mountain injured himself in his gym while performing a 556 pounds bench press. After the incident, Hafthor Bjornsson updated his fans about his injury status and also revealed that he might have to go through surgery depending on his MRI reports.
The potentially impending surgery of Hafthor Bjornsson has given rise to multiple reactions across the bodybuilding world. In the recent Old School Lads video while discussing the strongman’s injury, John Hansen commented, “I don’t know, man. I don’t know if you come back from a full rupture.” Fellow veteran, Samir Bannout also stated, “I don’t think you’re gonna come back to get that full strength.”
He further explained that if Hafthor broke his pec from the bone then he is likely to get better because he has to “reattach it deep into the bone, but if it’s from the muscle tore into two separate ways I mean that would be more difficult.”
The panel also stated that pec injuries have a long-lasting effect on the body. Hence, lifting heavy weights will “no way” be possible for Hafthor anymore.

After the news of Hafthor Bjornsson’s injury broke out, his coach, Sebastian Oreb posted a video of The Mountain competing at the bench press meet in his gym. He shared Bjornsson’s second and most successful benchpress attempt. After lifting 507 lbs in his first attempt, he flawlessly lifted 529 lbs. However, the third and last move proved to be too much for Thor.
Coach Oreb wrote, “He went for 252.5kg and his pec tore which put an end to the competition for Thor.” While lowering the barbell, when Hafthor expressed discomfort, spotters, including Oreb, helped him rerack the weight.
