Arnold Schwarzenegger has always cared about the environment. Three years after becoming the Governor of California in 2003, Schwarzenegger implemented the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. It was a watershed moment in the state’s history. Despite his efforts, some people have pointed fingers at the bodybuilding icon for owning four Hummers—the civilian version of the military’s gas-guzzling SUV.

Besides his Hummers, the Terminator actor owns a collection of off-road vehicles, motorcycles, and cars. However, one would be ignorant to glance at Schwarzenegger’s giant SUVs and question his commitment to a greener future. In a 2017 interview, the former governor revealed one could own four Hummers and save the environment. He also gave a befitting reply to the doubters.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has a few special Hummers
In 2017, Arnold Schwarzenegger sat down with Fiachra Gibbons of Agence France-Presse. During the interview, the former Mr. Olympia talked about saving the planet with technology. He revealed the fact that the four Hummers led many to question his on the sensitive issue of the environment. The questions mostly revolved around whether or not those Hummers are run-of-the-mill diesel-devouring giants. Apparently, three of his Hummers run on hydrogen, and he planned on converting the fourth into electric.
Schwarzenegger also criticized those pointing fingers despite not having all the information. The former governor said, “I hate it when environmentalism comes down to ‘you can’t do this and you can’t do that’. There’s a bad habit of shaming, guilt, and finger-pointing. ‘Don’t smoke this, don’t take a jacuzzi, and don’t take a plane.’ Everything’s bad.” Schwarzenegger told the interviewer.
Schwarzenegger gave the interview when he visited Cannes for the premiere of Wonders of the Sea (3D). The founder of the R20 Regions of Climate Action said the documentary would make people fall in love with the ocean and urge them to protect it. The bodybuilding icon isn’t the only famous personality criticized for his choice of transport. In 2016, many people criticized Leonardo DiCaprio for traveling on his private jet to receive an award for environmental activism.
The Governator founded a non-profit environmental organization
In 2011, the seven-time Mr. Olympia founded R20 Regions of Climate Action. The NGO’s goal is to invest and contribute to sustainable development goals. When visiting their website, one is greeted with the message, “R20’s mission is to accelerate the design and deployment of financial vehicles for sustainable infrastructure at a sub-national level.”
