Known as the Sultan of Symmetry, Flex Wheeler has successfully inscribed his name in bodybuilding. Despite not having won any Sandow trophies in his career, four-time Arnold Classic champ Wheeler got appreciation from the legend of the sport himself, so much so that Arnold Schwarzenegger once declared him the greatest of all time. But how does he define himself?

In a new Instagram post, Wheeler came out to share his unfiltered opinion of himself as being more than a bodybuilder. Even though his career helped him a lot, he revealed that life has always been a great teacher for the 57-year-old IFBB pro.

A leg amputation led to the tragic end of a scintillating bodybuilding career. Since then, the Sultan has been reaching out to his fans to inform them about his health updates, medical mishaps, and other core sports topics. However, this time Wheeler brought attention to the fact that he doesn’t like to box his identity that complements to an image that once held “few 20-year-old trophies.”

He shared a video and wrote a caption that began with, “I’m so much more than what I used to be, I have so much more to offer than a few 20-year-old trophies.” Even though the sport has supported him to this point, he can’t deny the reality check that enabled the massive transformation in his life. Hailing from a humble background, he suffered from dyslexia, faced bullies, and sustained the ordeal due to his kidney disease. Now, when the IFBB legend looks back, he comprehends, “I’ve been through so many metamorphoses on, the truth is I don’t really care about any accolades from bodybuilding….bodybuilding is what I’ve done, not what I am.”

Wheeler once was starstruck by Arnold Schwarzenegger

Wheeler is the uncrowned king of the sport. Even though he never was able to win the most prestigious Mr. Olympia title, his nickname is a testament to his on-stage dominance. Wheeler once gave an interview where he shared, “At the ’97 Arnold Classic, he called me the best bodybuilder in history – in front of everyone at the seminar before the competition. I was flabbergasted.”

Not only this but the Sultan was recently awarded the Arnold Classic Lifetime achievement award at the second-most prestigious stage this year. While he was forced to retire from the sport prematurely, Wheeler still has the faith to sculpt more from him. Seemingly, even after 57 years, there’s no stopping this legend.
