When one suffers from serious medical conditions, leading a regular life often comes with some hiccups. Bumstead has lived with an autoimmune disease that targets his kidneys. The star suffers from IGA Nephropathy, which causes inflammation in his kidneys and triggers an autoimmune response that’s harmful to his body.

In his Instagram story, Bumstead mentions severe allergies that have been bothering him for a while now. Notably, the star once mentioned in one of his videos how his disease suppressed his immune system. While he doesn’t mention the kind of allergies, he looked lost and frustrated in his selfie video.

The caption in the story read, “My allergies are so bad I don’t know how to life atm”. While it’s unclear if the allergy was due to his auto-immune disease or something else, it came in as a reminder for the bodybuilder to take care of himself. Bumstead’s kidney disease has caused a lot of changes in his lifestyle, and although he navigates through them, the disease once cost him his title.

It turned out that Bumstead had the disease since high school. A similar incident occurred where his kidneys flared up. Although he had a proper diagnosis in 2018, he lost out on the title of Mr. Olympia Classic Physique that year. Nevertheless, with proper care and nutrition, Bumstead is now a reigning champion of the category.
