In a candid chat, Cutler detailed the different nuances of women’s bodybuilding. While he reflected on its changes and evolution over the years, he had some strong opinions to share.
What does Jay Cutler think about the transformation of women’s bodybuilding over the years?
Unlike their male counterparts, women bodybuilders had a different set of criteria that determined the worthiest of them all. The women who competed in the Bikini Olympia category displayed a different body structure compared to the contenders in Men’s open. Jay Cutler addressed the same while talking about his senses toward women’s bodybuilding. Although he had a preference for the Bikini Olympia championship, the 4x Mr. Olympia mentioned how things changed on that end, too.
“I think the bikini girls, you know, five years ago, in my opinion, with a little softer look, was a little more presentable,” Cutler said. He also mentioned how the competition preferred a leaner look nowadays. Nevertheless, he maintained his stance that women have pushed themselves to new highs. Bodybuilding saw many changes over the years, and the women’s categories are not far behind.
Another noteworthy thing that Cutler pointed out was how the routine has changed over the years. The bodybuilding legend claimed that the criteria for both men’s and women’s bodybuilding were merging into one. This meant that Bikini Olympia also saw judges looking at muscle definition, abs, veins, etc. which Cutler wasn’t in favor of. He noted, “I don’t have favoritism towards the girls getting too big.”

He also mentioned how the poses for the Bikini Olympia changed unfavorably. Women were given poses that were “a little outrageous”. According to the bodybuilder, this hampered the image of women’s bodybuilding. Still, he believes women deserve recognition and a stage equal to their male counterparts. What do you feel about Cutler’s observations?
