“Don’t Have Crooked Mouths…”: Sylvester Stallone Detailed His Shortfalls Next to Arnold Schwarzenegger despite His Desire to Play His Iconic Role in 2014

Before Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone became best pals, things were not easy. Coming from the same industry, the two for 20 long years shared an intense rivalry. Trying to establish each other as Hollywood’s best Action star, the two stars, time and again tussled with each other. Such was the animosity that Stallone allegedly threw a bowl of flowers at Schwarzenegger at a ceremony.

However, soon, things changed from worse to better. The duo buried their differences and even worked on films together. Though the two share no hard feelings, the fans didn’t miss a chance to bring a comparison between the two. But back in 2014, Stallone silenced everyone when he listed his shortcomings and took a stand for his friend, Arnold.

Stallone made his stand clear 

There is one question that always bothers us, and that is, “what if?” Arnold and Stallone’s rise in Hollywood was during the same time. Even the choice of films they worked on was of the same genre. Thus, when fans saw Arnold in the famous Terminator series, they could not help but wonder, what if Stallone played the part?

Silencing once and for all, Sly said in the 2014 press meet, “I should have been the terminator, but Terminators don’t have crooked mouth and droopy eyes and speak with a slur, so I don’t fit.” For the unversed, the duo came together to promote their upcoming movie Expendables 3.

As Stallone was answering the question with his honesty, his dear friend, Arnie could not help but smile. Making his stand clear, the Hollywood veteran quoted, “So Arnold was literally perfect for the role.” With time the friendship of the two deepened so much so that they were not just spotted together in films but also in an unusual place.

From being staunch rivals to best friends, Arnie and Sly have seen many ups and downs together. As much as fans enjoyed their stiff competition, they adored their special bond. The friendship went to another level and reached a milestone together, when they went for shoulder surgery together.

As destiny would have it, Arnold and Stallone injured their shoulders in 2012. Coincidently the two were advised to undergo minor shoulder surgery. As the series of coincidences continued, even the dates for their surgeries were scheduled one after the other.
