He came, he saw, and he conquered. Not only that, but Arnold Schwarzenegger also elevated the standing of bodybuilding as a sport in the public eye. The 7x Mr. Olympia champ revolutionized bodybuilding forever with his bulky build, accompanied by a chiseled physique. Schwarzenegger’s entry into Hollywood made bodybuilding an even more lucrative field as it opened up newer horizons for its participants.

Over five decades later, Schwarzenegger has continued to keep his ties with the sport that brought him ultimate success. While the drastic changes bring a wide smile across the Terminator’s face, some things also make him angry.

Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t stand it when people cheat in the gym

Arnold Schwarzenegger is undoubtedly a pioneer of the bodybuilding community. The man was responsible for the sport blowing up and becoming a global phenomenon. His impact on the sport has been so legendary that even decades after retiring, Arnold continues to be an inspiration for bodybuilders across the globe. Gyms everywhere in the world have posters of Arnold to help people acquire the motivation to continue their training.

With such a glorious legacy, no one would love it when people would do something the wrong way. And Schwarzenegger is no exception. In an interview in 2019, Arnold revealed it drives him nuts whenever he sees people doing an exercise the wrong way. He said, “It drives me nuts when I see them in the gym. I’ve been seeing this stuff for 50 years because I was always a fanatic about doing the movement the right way – don’t cheat on yourself, just do the exercise the right way.”

He added even if one has a trainer but, they are not looking, one should not cheat. “You should still do it the right way. Those are the kind of things I see in the gym.” Sometimes, this bugs Arnold so much that he is compelled to go over to people and tell them it would be better if they did full reps.

What’s better than watching the best perform? The answer is to learn from them! Arnold, being a true master of the trade, is the perfect person to learn from. And with him as a trainer, one would not even dare to cheat a rep and leave it midway.

Back when Schwarzenegger was a six-time Mr. Olympia champ, he appeared on TV to teach beginner bodybuilders some basics of the trade. He showed three basic exercises that were crucial for any beginner. The first exercise was the bench press with a 65lbs bar. Next came squats where Arnold used the same bar to add some weight to the exercise. Third came the bicep curls. Arnold showcased the perfect technique for maximizing gains from the exercise.
