Arnold Schwarzenegger has done it all
The Austrian Oak’s Instagram bio reads, “Former Mr. Olympia, Conan, Terminator, and Governor of California. I killed the Predator. I told you I’d be back.” Notably, Arnold won his first Mr. Olympia in 1970. The Austrian won bodybuilding’s most coveted title six times in a row.

Arnold also frequently gave interviews and squashed many myths surrounding bodybuilding in the 70s. In 1980, Arnie returned to the bodybuilding stage to win his 7th Mr. Olympia title. However, Arnold’s popularity grew after he started acting in movies. In 1977, the Austrian won a Golden Globe, but his breakout role was Conan in “Conan the Barbarian” (1982).

While Conan did great at the box office, the following projects made him an action icon. In 1984, Arnold starred as the T-800 in James Cameron’s “Terminator”. Arnold’s portrayal of the titular antagonist was so iconic it spawned a franchise. Arnie reprised his role in three more Terminator movies. His most recent appearance was in 2018’s Terminator Dark Fate.
Apart from his several other notable works, Arnold is also part of another mega-franchise that began with 1987’s “The Predator”. Like Terminator, The Predator franchise has lived on for decades. 2022s Prey was the franchise’s most recent entry. Besides films, the original Predator and Terminator films have also inspired video games, books, and spinoffs.
Stepping into politics
Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he would run for Governor of California, but few believed he would win the election. However, in 2003, the 7-time Mr. Olympia defeated Democrat Gray Davis in the election. The Austrian served two terms as Governor of California and implemented ground-breaking policies.

Arguably, Arnold’s most revolutionary was the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. The California Air Resources page describes the act as “The first program in the country to take a comprehensive, long-term approach to addressing climate change.”

However, the Austrian has also seen his fair share of controversies. Arnold and former president Donald Trump had a long-standing feud. While he is also a Republican, in 2021, Arnold called trump the “Worst president ever,” Another controversy came in 1980 when Arnold won his 7th Mr. Olympia.
