Later, he told an interesting anecdote where he saw Mentzer at the Gold’s Gym, recognizing him from the books he had read that mentioned Mentzer. Further, he narrated, “It didn’t seem he liked Arnold.” Talking about how many bodybuilders like Aaron Baker, Dorian Yates, and Lee Labrada had endorsed Mentzer’s training, Cutler shared Mentzer’s perspective that there had been behind-the-scenes politics in making Schwarzenegger win the 1980 Olympia contest. Post this, Cutler also shared an unexpected aftermath after Mentzer lost the 1980 Olympia. While Franco Columbu won the 1981 Olympia, Schwarzenegger promoted the show that year.
Afterward, Cutler elaborated on his and Mentzer’s surprising similarities. Interestingly, both had chosen bodybuilding after being inspired by magazines and competed in their first contest at 18. This wasn’t the only time Cutler opened up about famous personalities, who are an inseparable part of bodybuilding history. In the 57th episode of his podcast, Cutler stated, “I hate to compare it but like Dwayne Johnson, a couple of years ago when he was like the action guy, Arnold was bigger than that.” Later, the 4-time Olympia champion praised the Austrian Oak’s aura on stage, which would attract crowds.
Further, Cutler complimented Schwarzenegger, calling him the “number one actor in the world for a long time.” Continuing, Cutler shared how he was inspired by Schwarzenegger, despite the fact he hadn’t seen Schwarzenegger contest in bodybuilding competitions much.
