Bodybuilding fans definitely don’t need an introduction to Lee Haney. Winner of the Mr. Olympia title eight times in a row, Haney is indeed the epitome of success. With his meticulous physique and well-defined back, he set a new standard for the sport. Two years earlier, in an interview, the “TotaLee Awesome” man talked about other athletes with whom he shared a ripped physique. The champ also expressed his views on another Mr. O title holder.

Haney won his first title in 1984 and by 1991, he had broken Arnold Schwarzenegger’s record of seven Mr. Olympia titles. In the interview, he admitted how he had a resemblance with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robby Robinson when it came to showcasing jacked bodies.

In 2020, he sat for an interview with the Generation Iron Fitness & Bodybuilding Network. While talking about the type of physique he looked for in his time, the legend implied, “I did what I needed to do during my era and create a physique that was…that was let’s say that was representatives of my era. I see myself as the combination of Robby Robinson, Arnold, Roy Callender, you know physiques such as that. That’s who I’m…and that’s what was X to me during my time as Mr. Olympia.”

He even talked about the fitness that Ronnie Coleman followed and how the latter is suffering from injuries that might relate to his powerlifting. Addressing the relationship that the two highest record holders still share, Haney stated, “Ronnie is a dear friend of mine, I talked to him over the telephone, you know, he’d used my detox programs, you know. When I want to ask him about something, Ronnie what do you think about this or that? He’s always made himself available, just as I’ve made myself available for him.”

 

In addition, Haney expressed his heartfelt grief about the injuries and health issues Coleman is going through. He added, “Ronnie took weight training, strength to a whole another level in the field of bodybuilding.” It’s always been a pleasure for him to talk about his fellow athletes like Coleman or even Dorian Yates. He describes their contribution to the sport in further detail, and debunks rumors about rivalries.

Haney admitted, “We are gladiators. Gladiators, in Roman times, we fought to the death. We were just made that way. We’re not your normal people, we don’t do normal things, we do a lot of abnormal things…”

Haney shared how he envisioned Yates to be something more as he had the size and a great shape that was needed in the sport. He expressed his view on how Yates’s physique was yet to mature at that time. Speaking about Dorian Yates, Haney shared, “Dorian didn’t have the tiny waist like I did, the lines as I did. But Dorian was the masked monster. So, the size of physique have started to change. So, Dorian was the first of that…”
