Recognized as one of the most elite bodybuilders among the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, and Lee Haney, Dorian Yates holds the spotlight on himself from his time of bodybuilding. Being a black sheep, the six-time Mr. Olympia followed his path to success. Relinquishing the myth “more is better,” Yates revealed his perception of using substances to enhance projection. In an interview, The Shadow talked about the secrets behind his meticulous physique and what the rookies are lacking.

Indeed a pro, Yates still aspires to many as the man still flaunts a maintained body. In the setting of unnatural deaths of bodybuilders, he put a step forward to open up about the consequences that excessive drug use can cause. This is what he talked about.

Dorian Yates opened up about strength-increasing drugs

Though a veteran and belonged to the list of classic bodybuilders, Yates confessed how he too, used supplements while preparing for the Olympia stage. In 2019, Yates gave an interview with Muscular Development, where spoke it all and shared, ” I did use higher amounts of drugs than what I listed, and it was in preparation for the 1997 Mr. Olympia. The steroid doses were increased, and I also added in insulin.”

Though when asked about the cause behind the controversial confession, he seemed unmoved by it. He implied, “It’s not hard to understand why the amounts I listed would be hard for some guys to believe. They might be taking two, three or five times what I was taking and still don’t look like a pro, much less Mr. Olympia.”

Yates is a believer in intensity and focus than quantity. According to him, in order to maintain and grow the body to desired metrics, one needs to be very patient with it. He even discards the intake of substances more than the prescribed amounts as well as the tendency of getting more by taking more. He said, “Think about how much doctors prescribe for testosterone replacement therapy: typically 200 milligrams a week. There are guys out there using 5,000-8,000 milligrams per week. That’s up to 40 times what your body needs for normal function! “

Yates had his own way

Being indifferent to the controversies that surrounded him, The Shadow made history by winning the greatest bodybuilding title six times. He owned the spotlight even after dabbling with his tattoo controversy and the others related to steroids. Yates followed 100 percent focus on one set rather than pursuing three sets half-heartedly in his workout routine.

The IFBB legend implies that though the drugs are not as dangerous as the others prevalent out there, the emerging powerlifters should concentrate on work ethics. Further, he noted that if competitors possess good genetics, steroids can assist them built better physiques eventually. Otherwise, there is no point pushing it more to get results.

Yates is concerned about the higher use of drugs that is causing untimely deaths today. Though he also used some in his time, he advises a limited use of supplements for bodybuilders.
