While answering a fan’s question, Chris Bumstead once revealed something that can ruin bodybuilding careers. He talked about tattoos. Despite having a tattoo on his own, Bumstead particularly avoided putting up a tattoo in this particular area. Bodybuilding is a sport that strictly focuses on training the body. But will the training affect tattoos? Bumstead was very serious, while discussing this fan’s question.

Chris Bumstead is an IFBB Canadian bodybuilder. He lives in Ottawa, Ontario, and is one of the most popular bodybuilding icons. Bumstead is the reigning Mr. Olympia Classic Physique winner, and also has a huge fan following on all his social media. He is also known for keeping in contact with his fans and keeping them out of trouble by answering their questions regarding bodybuilding.

Totally not recommended by Chris Bumstead

Chris Bumstead himself has a tattoo on his forearm, but he still doesn’t recommend doing a full-body tattoo. It might sound confusing for sure, but Bumstead has his reasons for this.

“Personally no, because I strategically only put it on my forearm,” Bumstead answered to the question, “Do tattoos, poorly affect your bodybuilding career?” He has only a tattoo on his forearm and none on his upper arm. For a specific reason, he fully avoids getting a tattoo on his upper arm.

Bumstead explained, “But if you get tattoos covering your whole upper arm, your whole chest, your stomach, your back, legs, main body part,” and continued, “It’s going to take away from seeing the definition on your body then absolutely they can definitely detriment your bodybuilding career.”

“Then obviously you’re not going to look symmetrical,” Bumstead said. Not only that, but also it will hide your textures, which is very important when participating in any bodybuilding contest.

Bumstead ended the topic by saying“So, I would avoid covering your whole body in tattoos until you’re done bodybuilding.”

Tattoos of other bodybuilders

Tattoos seem to be a lot more popular than they were in the past. A lot of bodybuilders have them and aren’t too worried about them.

None of the world’s most famous bodybuilders, including Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, and Phil Heath, have tattoos. They have all won Mr. Olympia, not once but a lot of times.

Six-time Mr. Olympia winner, Dorian Yates, also had a tattoo, but only on his forearm. A tattoo is like a cosmetic. It won’t help or enhance bodybuilding judging. It is still an athlete’s choice if they want a tattoo or not.
