Though the affair was there for a while, it was not until 2011 that the news blew out of proportion. In an interview from 2012, Arnie reveals why it took so long to confess!

Arnold states the reason for the delay in confession

As Arnold sat down for a conversation with the ABC news host to discuss the launch of his autobiography, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” the Terminator star went candid. In the interview, the host asked some grueling questions, all of which Arnold answered in a calm demeanor.

As Arnold writes in the book, Maria had earlier intuitions that everything was not okay. She sensed that something was amiss but did not confront her husband. It was only after he left governorship that Maria finally confronted him at the “therapist’s office.”

As the host asked the question, “Why didn’t you admit to it before?” Arnold quoted, “just didn’t know how to.” Expressing himself, seven-time Mr. Olympia champion confessed that he “was too scared of everything, losing her…” and family. For the unversed during the said time, Arnold was married to Kenedy-clan descendent Maria Shriver. The two were already parents to three kids and were expecting another.

Further, in the interview, Arnold expressed his fear. Pretty clueless about what he should be doing, he avoided Maria’s query for years. Things became apparent, and the suspicions rose as Arnold’s son with his household help, Joseph Baena, started to resemble him.

Putting the dots together, Maria realized and finally asked Arnold for answers. While the host enquired whether he regrets not informing Maria earlier, he says, “well, it’s always easy to be smart in hindsight. ” He added, “it’s just one of the disastrous situations that I have created; it’s the worst thing that I have ever done.”
