Back in the year 2019, Chris Bumstead got his hernia surgery. This was just before Mr. Olympia, which was kind of a difficult situation. But Chris Bumstead didn’t let surgery ruin his dream, which was to win Mr. Olympia. Despite having poor luck in Mr. Olympia’s Classic Physique category, Bumstead gave everybody a surprise on the stage in 2019. It was pretty much expected after his journey on stage since 2017, but it was still quite mesmerizing for both his fans and himself.

Chris Bumstead is a Canadian IFBB professional bodybuilder. He is from Ottawa, Ontario, the capital city of Canada. He is known for his three consecutive wins in the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique division. He has also been runner-up in the years 2017 and 2018 on the same stage. Currently, he is getting ready for the 2022 Mr. Olympia and has been quite interactive with his fans on all his social media.
Chris Bumstead managed to conquer the stage with a hole in his stomach
As weird as it sounds, major surgery wasn’t enough to stop Chris Bumstead from getting on stage. He didn’t just get into the stage, but he also managed to place in the number one position. He had a lot of thoughts going on in his head before the Olympia, which was just 18 weeks ahead of the surgery.
“Prep this year is going to be another battle coming back from this and trying to be 100%, but it’s all just part of the game,” Bumstead mentioned in an Instagram post. He wasn’t afraid to get back to training despite the hernia surgery.

“I knew I wasn’t going to be able to train with the confidence I need to look even close to my best with a hole in my stomach,” Bumstead said and continued, “so I’m grateful I could get it fixed so quick.” Even with a hole in his stomach, he wasn’t afraid to compete against other bodybuilders on the big stage. He trained with full awareness and determination. Bumstead not only did the hard work but also did the smart work.
He had never been lucky with Mr. Olympia. Even in 2018, he was very close to the number-one spot but was not able to win because of health issues.
The current state of Bumstead
Despite having three Mr. Olympias in his name. Chris Bumstead is hungry for more and he isn’t retiring until he gets one more Olympia.
While he had made a lot of statements previously regarding his early retirement. Bumstead will be participating in the 2022 Mr. Olympia and will be targeting the number one spot again while defending his current title.
