The King demonstrated unbelievable strength with his powerlifting and deadlifts. Bodybuilding took him to the international stage and earned a name that’s synonymous with the sport. On the other hand, it brought him down to an irreparable condition. With no regrets and a positive outlook on life, Coleman continues to contribute to the world of bodybuilding. In an interview back in 2019, he shared the benefits of bodybuilding.
Ronnie Coleman dismissed a popular myth
Coleman’s views on bodybuilding were pretty positive. According to him, it is a way to ensure his entire system is functioning well. He said, “It encourages good health and keeps all of your organs working well.” Otherwise, it is sure to take a toll on the conditioning.
By stating, “I go to the doctor for a full check up about four times a year and every time I go it is always good,” he disproved the popular belief that bodybuilding can be detrimental to health. “It is always bodybuilding to me,” he added, conveying that the sport demands consuming good quality food and also “taking the right amounts of vitamins and minerals each and every day.”
Coleman followed a stringent diet and workout routine during his prime. He stunned the world with his super-human body with beefy muscles. He consumed about 5000 calories rich in protein every day. Sadly, a crunching he ignored in the early phase of his career escalated into a serious issue that has made him almost immobile.
Coleman takes the health benefits of bodybuilding to the masses
In his pursuit to achieve excellence in the sport and do the unthinkable, he trained rigorously. In 1996, an intense squatting session caused a disk dislocation. Although he realized something happened, he didn’t seek any medical help. Ronnie recounted the loud crunching sound and said, “I lost a little strength. I heard it, but the athlete in you is like, ‘Let’s go on.’”
