In his recent newsletter titled, “Ever Feel Lazy? Read This,” Schwarzenegger talked about the impact laziness has on one’s aging. He revealed that it has been scientifically proven that lack of exercise accelerates the biological aging of the body. What does that mean? It means that a person might be 25 years old, but their body would be as worn out or feel as old as a 40-year-old. This, in turn, makes the person prone to diseases that are common among the older population, despite his/her young age.
A study conducted by ‘The Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia, and Muscle‘ proved that muscle strength improves longevity. The lack of it thereof accelerates biological aging. Lack of muscle strength has the same implications on the body as smoking.
Quoting study author Mark Peterson, Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote, “We know that smoking, for example, can be a powerful predictor of disease and mortality, but now we know that muscle weakness could be the new smoking.”
Schwarzenegger provides a solution
Schwarzenegger did not leave his fans hanging after sharing the scary discovery. Arnold Schwarzenegger did provide a solution for it. Schwarzenegger revealed that muscle and strength help one protect themselves from the most common and the deadliest age-related diseases. He added that the study had observed people for over a decade. The results were that people with muscle strength had healthy DNA. And it also slowed their biological aging.
