“Compare Montana to Brady”: The King Ronnie Coleman Once Stripped Comparison to Other Bodybuilding Legends With an Interesting Analogy

Ronnie Coleman is one of the pioneers of bodybuilding. The legend set a record by winning the title of Mr. Olympia 8 times in a row. Whether it’s his friendly rivalry with Jay Cutler or his current podcasts and interviews – the star is equally endearing and witty. The champ is still called ‘The King’ because he is unbeatable at what he does.

In an interview in 2016, Ronnie talked about his life and the current bodybuilding scenario. However, when asked to compare a current bodybuilder with himself, the legend had a unique answer.

When asked about who came close to being the current generation’s Ronnie Coleman, the icon refused to choose. His logic was simple, bodybuilders across generations were different. Therefore, he could not compare any of them to himself.

Ronnie added that each generation possessed at least one best bodybuilder. Therefore, it was unfair to compare them with one another. He gave an analogy for his reasoning, “It’s like trying to compare Montana to Brady. They were both the best of their era but the game is always different from generation to generation”. He added that he considered Arnold, Haney, and himself the best of their respective generations. However, one couldn’t compare the three with each other.

Despite his detailed reasoning, the champ did end up choosing who he thought was the best then. Ronnie specially called out Phil Heath, stating that he had the potential. Heath, who currently has 7 Mr. Olympia titles, was on par with all the legends of bodybuilding, according to ‘the king’ himself.

While it’s been long since the champion retired, countless surgeries and age haven’t stopped him from working.
