Canadian bodybuilding sensation Chris Bumstead has established himself as the dominant force in Classic Physique. Bumstead won his first Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title in 2019 and hasn’t looked back since. In fact, the four-time Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champion has been so dominant that countless fans have desired to see their idol compete against the big boys in the Men’s Open category. In the past, Bumstead has also entertained the idea of moving to open bodybuilding. However, this time he might actually do it.

On February 24, the reigning Classic Physique champion appeared on Hany Rambod’s The Truth podcast. During the episode, the Canadian talked about his career and retirement plans, among other things. Above all, he hinted at competing in the Men’s Open category.

Near the end of their conversation, Bumstead’s coach Hany Rambod reiterated the public’s expectation to see him compete against open bodybuilders. The champion bodybuilder replied that he would like to approach open bodybuilding differently. “I don’t want to push for a year to be in the open but I would love to peek for an open (show),” said Bumstead.

The four-time champion revealed he gets quite depleted during the final phase of his Mr. Olympia prep to make weight. “I’m curious what would happen if we’re like, we fed me into a show and really like blew up,” said the bodybuilding champion. Bumstead also said he’d like to see how his “physique would look like, if for like two weeks we just fed me up, push the limits, carb-ed up… and I stepped on stage at like 248 (lbs),” added Bumstead.

Bumstead also said he would compete in the Men’s Open category at the Arnold Classic if Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to a special request. “I have said that if the Arnold moved to two (or) three weeks post Olympia I would do the open at the Arnold,” said Bumstead. That’s because it’ll allow the Canadian to put on more weight and mass while being in competition-ready shape.

Hany Rambod felt the seriousness in the champion’s words

After hearing the reigning Classic Physique champion elucidate his hypothetical plan, coach Rambod felt the gravity of Bumstead’s words. “I think you’re kind of half serious about it,” Rambod told the champion. “I can tell between him joking and being serious,” Hany Rambod told his co-host Austin.
