It is not uncommon to come across gym goers who like to indulge in foolish weight-lifting activities to reward themselves with attention from the onlookers. In the fitness world, they are called ego-lifters. While bodybuilding encourages gradual heavy weight lifting, many gym-ers try to challenge themselves by lifting weights double their strength. It jeopardizes their form and technique and weakens their joints. Most importantly, it often leads to ugly consequences. Here is one such ego-lifting incident that the internet saw that rendered a man injured in the gym.
On April 14, the Instagram gym page, Gym Savages shared a man’s attempt at ego lifting in the absence of spotters. Moreover, his failed endeavor made the internet go berserk with hilarious reactions.

The man in the Instagram video is seen lying on a bench, ego-lifting a heavy barbell. He takes a deep breath and brings down the iron rod on his chest. The next moment when he tried to lift the barbell again, he lifted his lower body as well.
Failing to take the harrowing pressure, he loses grip on the barbell which directly fell on his neck. Sadly, he was not accompanied by any spotter around him to help prevent such a mishap.
Further, the video showed snaps of the man’s injury on his neck and also added a caption, “Ego lifters need a spotter… at the least! 😂” The man’s unfortunate ego-lifting attempt baffled the netizens raising concerns about his audacity. They had multiple reactions to the video.
Netizens found many things going wrong in the video
Not just his ego-lifting attempt, netizens also commented on aspects that resulted in the man’s injuries. An experienced gym-goer educated the man about the power of the barbell, “If you don’t belong there, the iron won’t let you stay there. You can’t lie to that iron!!”
As enthusiasts mess with their form while ego lifting, a netizen was sharp enough to notice the man lifting his hips, “Did he think he was going to do hip thrusts?” “What wearing a flannel to the gym gets you.” wrote another netizen who found his choice of clothes rightfully odd.

Generally, spotters help gym-goers to lift heavy weights which lessens the risk of injuries. Hence, a netizen advised him to “Get a spotter” Moreover, someone advised the man to use his ego for the right reasons, “use your ego not for the lift but for to never skip any workout.”

Owing to the injuries, ego lifting is a less encouraged practice in the bodybuilding community. Many bodybuilders like Phil Heath have also called out such foolish practices in the past. Better safe than sorry!
